Updated Wednesday morning forecast & WX Notes — December 21st, 2016

· Last of the arctic air has been scoured out and now it’s a flood of Pacific air. This Pacific air is milder and typically not that good for combination of reason to add moisture to our area.

· Thus we get comfortable winter temperatures levels, but limited moderate to big sized storms.

· For decent snow and decent snow making this is a weather pattern negates snow below 2000-2500 ft where valleys lose snow, but some gains at the bigger ski resort summits, but overall just not good for eastern ski resorts until we get arctic air into the region and this is nowhere in sight, but likely after the New Year Holiday at some point!?

· What’s going on up in the arctic is likely affecting air mass down into the mid latitudes which for winter lovers is not a good deal, but the writing has been on the wall for a long time and should not come as a shock.

· To my mind, even most in meteorological forecasting community are in some state of denial about this – wish casting, hoping for the snowy side (blown winter forecast’s galore) going on analogs of their grand daddy’s climate chemistry – which is bullshit we are in a new normal.

· Not the climate side community – the wiser, smarter – the bigger picture this has been a theme now for decades – you decide.
