Updated Friday morning Forecast & WX Notes — January 6th, 2017

· Incrementally, arctic air step ladders to some degree downward this weekend, with the major push of the coldest air Sunday into Monday.

· Shown below with temperatures some 10 to 20 degrees below normal – to see that in a background with a warming world, is somewhat significant. Consider how cold it might be…without background global warming.

· In dense cold arctic air — interesting things take place you would not normally find. Cirrus clouds that with ice crystals lay atop the ground with low angle sunrise and sunset glittery crystals fall from a seemingly clear blue sky – we call this “diamond dust”

· Source regions of moisture that more local such as lakes produce their own weather regimes and cause localized “lake effect” flurries – this should be the case near Lake Champlain at times over this weekend.

· If the air is still with a strong temperature inversion…mirages take place. Distant mountain ranges can magnified. Crazy islands in the sky as seen below in arctic cold.
