About Roger Hill

Fifty Years of Working the Weather

Roger HillEver since he witnessed the power of a Yellowstone thunderstorm 60 years ago as a kid on a family trip, Roger has been awed and amazed by the weather. He first learned his trade in the Army in Hawaii and spent ten years with  the National Weather Service in diverse stations such as Los Angeles, Montana, Cape Hatteras and Burlington, Vermont. His radio career blossomed at WGDR in Plainfield, Vermont. Since 2000, Roger has been forecasting the weather for the listeners of Radio Vermont (WDEV, WLVB, WCVT). He also contracted for 20-some years with VELCO and Vermont’s utilities, and freelanced for local municipalities, schools, outdoor event organizers and maple sugarmakers. All told, he’s been in the weather business for 50 years.
Roger lives in Worcester, Vermont on the side of a mountain with his wife, a border collie, and a cat who’s almost as friendly as a dog. They have two adult children, a daughter-in-law and son-in-law, and five bouncy grandchildren. In his spare time, he plays drums, keeps bees, and avidly follows politics.
